Paisaje espectral

MAĀT is pleased to present “Paisaje espectral” (Spectral Landscape), a group exhibition co-curated with guadalajara90210, a Mexican-based project run by Alma Saladin. The exhibition includes works of Tania Candiani, Celeste, Mariana Garibay Raeke, Fabiola Menchelli, Jonathan Miralda Fuksman, Andrés Pereira Paz, Othiana Roffiel, Marco Rountree, Guadalupe Salgado, and Rafael Uriegas, all of whom share a deep connection to Mexico.

"Paisaje espectral" emerges as a result of a conversation revolving around the interplay of color, landscape, and light within the artistic practices of these ten artists. The exhibition evokes a luminous and multifaceted panorama where the silent and organic forms intrinsic to the works are revealed. The selected pieces have varying textures and expressive qualities that unveil the vibrancy of materials. Inhabited by a presence, the atmospheres of the works extend beyond the frames, blurring the line between the external and internal environments. Combining a wide spectrum of approaches to the idea of scenery, some works explore the notion of the body as a landscape, while others reflect the passage of seasons through the materialization of light. Certain pieces present stones meditating against still-life backgrounds. Moreover, the city appears as a landscaped architectural element, symbolizing another facet of the exhibition. The territorial aspect of the landscape and its social implications are also present in some works. Through an investigation of color, the layers of spatiality overlap, ranging from the lava of volcanoes to celestial bodies. The exhibition is akin to an exploration of a transient landscape.
