"For the past few years, I’ve been developing small works at the crossroads of drawing and gouache painting on A3 paper formats. I recently decided to embark on a new series exploring my obsession with ultra-vegetal miniature landscapes—imaginary natural worlds densely packed with life, where, as always, color leads the way and shapes follow as if whimsical, sonic little haikus visions could be encapsulated on notebook pages, much like one might carefully assemble a herbarium.
From William Walton’s extraordinary garden in Ischia, to the visionary works of Henry Darger and Joseph Yoakum, to Persian and Indian miniatures, many influences have fed into this period, also been deeply impacted by Crossing the Boars by Zhang Guixing and The Garden by the Sea by Mercè Rodoreda which, each in their own way, have left a lasting imprint on this collection."
